Brown Toad Speaks

     I wrote these few paragraphs a little while back, as an experimentation in writing with a character voice. I forgot about it shortly after writing it and was delighted to find it and re-read it. I left it unedited because it seemed like the thing to do.

BROWN TOAD SPEAKS

    A small brown toad, dressed in a waistcoat, steps up to a soapbox in the square. He declares,

    "You are changing. We are all changing in a constant state of fluxuation. You have seen it around you and felt it inside you. Illumination, aching to be accepted in your heart and released into the world."

    "Perhaps you have been afraid of going mad, or simply that those around may think that you've gone so. If their minds are open, they will be so happy to see you living your bliss, expressing the light within yourself. A light that we all share. The same illumination will undoubtably burst forth from their hearts as well."

    "Even if they don't know, it will seep out through the day, until it comes go be undeniable even to the most closed of hearts. I am light. I, as a being encompassing all life on earth, am light. I am light and I am love." 

    The toad thanks the crowd which has gathered, steps off the podium and hops away solemnly, in neither state of bliss or despair.
